Getting Out of Your Own Way

Cuckoo Clock Fabric Swatch

I’m so excited to share that my pattern ‘Cuckoo’ will soon available for purchase at a retail outlet near you!! Details to come.

Things have been quiet in this space lately. That hasn’t been the case in my studio by any means, but I’ve had some exciting things going on and have had to re-prioritize my studio/work time.

I  have missed meeting you all here though. I enjoy this process of sharing and recording my experience as I follow my heart.

My son is now almost a year and a half. My daughter turned four at the end of March. I’m working between 20 and 30 hours/week, and there is an ongoing conversation in my head, equal parts inspiration and guilt, about the time I spend away from my babies to chase my dream of being an artist.

When I stand back and I look at the big picture though, and I consider what I want them to believe is possible in this world, I’m proud to be doing what I love.

I have unbelievable amounts of respect for parents that stay home with their babies. It is, hands down, one of the most demanding (albeit rewarding) jobs there is. What I want my little ones to know though, is that it’s all a choice.

I want them to know that the universe is abundant. That almost anything is possible. That following a dream is not always the easiest path–but it is the one that will make them feel the most alive.

How they see and experience the world is a choice–and it’s all up to them.

What is it that’s holding you back from following your dreams? What small step could you take today, or even this week, to change course?

You only have one shot at this. Life. If you can get out of your own way, incredible things are possible.

What Do You Choose?

Described as retro art reminiscent of a mid-century modern world, I am so excited to announce that my abstract tea series is now available from Greenbox Art & Culture.

This is my first licensed collection with GreenBox, and I am so excited to see where it will go.

What are YOU excited about today?

Our world is full of darkness. Fear. Anger. Stress. Pain. Heartache.

It’s also full of unbelievable beauty. Hope. Love. Joy. Light.

One of the first things I do in the morning is check-in with myself. I set my intention for the day–to see the beauty. The love. To find joy.

Pain is a part of the human experience–(seemingly) unavoidable. But sometimes, sometimes all it takes is a subtle shift, a willingness to see it differently–and everything changes.

How are you choosing today?

Are you looking for shadows or are you looking for the light?

Pop-Up Holiday Market December 5th!

Deck the DPAC

If you missed our sale last weekend (we had a blast!), not to worry. We (my mom and I, plus more than 20 other talented artists) will be participating in a pop-up holiday market. Yahoo!!

Next Friday (that’s December 5th), we will be in downtown Denver at the Backstage Coffee Art Gallery (located in the DPAC complex) peddling our wares at the “Deck the DPAC’s” pop up holiday market. Featuring metal work, ceramics and glass sculptures, paintings, jewelry, photography, art prints and wearable art, this is a one night only event where you’re sure to find that lovely, unique gift.

5:30-10pm, Art Gallery at Backstage Coffee, 1000 14th St, Denver.

The event coincides Denver’s First Friday Art Walks, and the 40th Annual Parade of Lights–so the festive energy will be bubbling over. AND…the bar will be open so come out and say hello!

Girl Hanging from Tree

A couple weeks ago, I posted about an exciting project I was commissioned to do, creating 6 illustrations for family musician Johnny Bregar. Johnny will be using these images on his revamped website. His site isn’t quite finished yet, but the illustrations are. Hope you like them!

And next week, Lilla’s Global Talent Search kicks off on August 5th. Yikes! I am really excited–and super nervous.

Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search

As the month of July draws to a close, I will be writing a check to the Art Students League of Denver. Thank you to all who bought something from my shop this month!

Rolling into the month of August, I will be donating 10% of the proceeds from my online store to DAVA, a local organization that “… provides high-quality, after-school programming in the Aurora community and has become an anchor of free arts education for 900 urban kids (ages 3-17) annually. DAVA programs are designed to provide young people with the tools necessary to activate a new vision for community through the arts. Projects encourage youth to develop their imaginations and character, and to step up as future leaders.”

Check ’em out.

A Profound Shift

The illustrations above are for a client I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Johnny Bregar makes awesome, toe-tappin’ family music, and if you have young ones in the house, you should definitely check him out.

Johnny has commissioned me to do six illustrations for his new website–but here’s a sneak peak. Johnny’s music is a little bit folk, a little bit bluegrass, and a whole lot of fun for the whole family (my three-year-old and I have regular dance parties whenever ‘Mac and Cheese‘ comes on).

Last week, we had visitors in town for the holiday weekend. Long time friends, we hadn’t seen each other since becoming parents.

Witnessing that shift in others is profound.

Becoming a parent pushes, pulls, and molds you into something that is richer with more depth, leaving the person you were forever changed for the better (even if it is with more gray hair).

Make no mistake–this character building process is no walk in the park. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Also, for the month of July, 10% of what I sell will go to The Art Students League of Denver, a local organization that focuses on providing opportunities for artists of all ages and abilities to study and work with regionally and nationally recognized working artists. From their website:

“ASLD is an inclusive and inspiring art community where members of all abilities are guided by professional artists to reach their highest potential.”

Monkeyin’ Around

3 Monkeys in a tree

A good friend of mine is having a baby next month. She is so adorable right now- all belly. And she is using my artwork for her nursery! Working on getting final files together for her, I printed and tiled the monkey piece together at full size, which is about 5′ x 3′.

Aren’t they fun?
